Charleston: The Holy City

Well my best friend Sydni is married and living the life honeymooning in Punta Cana. Can we say jealous?

I had the BEST weekend catching up my dearest of dear and even though I am so glad to be home, I miss them already. We flew out earlllyyy Thursday morning in this kind of weather.

Luckily Delta is the best airline ever and they didn't cancel our flight like American, United and others did. Thank you Delta. Seriously, thank youuuuuuu!!!!  Kelly and Pepper were on our same flight into Charleston so we shared a cab and went to exploring the city. The weather was beautiful, warm, and sunny and we had beers and delicious food.

Thursday night, pre-dinner.. and shenanigans.

At the Bridesmaid's Luncheon

Rehearsal Dinner
Saturday we did the normal pre-wedding festivities. Hair, makeup, lounge, drink champagne, gossip... Sydni's grandmother, Lucy, was such a hilarious woman. All weekend she was done to a T and wore super big, think Jackie-O big, Gucci reading glasses. She was fa-bu-lous! She spent a lot of Saturday giving us marriage and vacation advice and treated all of us to champagne. Loved her!

Me and the blushing bride. Such a fabulous time celebrating her!

Stalking her on the trolley. Creepy pic? Nah... We're best friends.
The reception was to die for! It was held at an amazing plantation right on the water. The torrential downpours did not inhibit any of us from having the best time eva. The eight man band played Grateful Dead, Widespread and the classics and we all danced the night away.

Whitney, myself and Alyssa.

The night ended with a few of us playing poker. We bet drinks instead of dollars and it was not healthy. Though I did not feel very well yesterday morning, I'm glad I stayed up because at one point the boys were "betting" bottles of wine. Our husbands and boyfriends may be 30 but they act like 15 year olds. They are so lucky to have us girls..

Yes, yes they are.

Five for Friday

Im posting this from my phone in a hotel in Charleston while I sit next to dear friends. So so excited this weekend is finally here because tomorrow we celebrate Sydni and Drew!

This Friday I am excited about my new jawbone band and spray tan gun, using rent the runway for some fun looks, our cat Ollie and his love for our dogs (or the love of using them as lounge furniture), and getting to be with my girls in such a fun city!

Happy Friday and weekend!

UP by Jawbone

Newest obsession right here.. And it hasn't even arrived on my door step yet.. This little sucker is called an UP band and it not only tracks your exercise (think a pedometer on steroids) but you sleep patterns too. You can also plug in your daily diet and mood into the app and it stores all of your data. I CANNOT WAIT!!

So fashionable. So flexible. So UP!

I know that the exercise tracker will make me more motivated to get up for my 5:30 am Xfit classes, but I am most excited about the sleep tracker. These past few weeks, my sleep has been sub-par. I have always considered myself a stellar sleeper but it seems I am channeling this girl lately and I am excited to see if I have a pattern or if I really can just blame Brady for his tossing and turning- I love him, I really do! But when he wakes me up in the middle of the night it makes me want to smother him with a pillow.

Anyone have one of these gems? Mine gets in today and I will Instagram a pic as soon as I put it on! Woop!

Prosciutto, Caramelized Onion and Arugula Pizza

MIA Sarah is back. My computer and camera weren't speaking the same language for the latter part of last week so you can blame them. Technology is the worst.. Until you need news and then Twitter is the best. Case in point: This morning my mom was genuinely freaking out because my Dad was in route to Chicago from XNA airport. He missed his first flight and hopped on another but didn't tell the madre what number. She's watching the morning news and the news station hops on to say a commercial airliner is making an emergency landing because of a mechanical problem. Of course my first stop is Twitter world because we all know that's where you get the good gossip and in this case, up to date news. He wasn't on this flight. Yay! Plane landed safely. Amen!

Last week I made some semi-homemade pizzas. We do these about once a week because they are so simple. The Big Green Egg is of course the best way to cook them but while the weather is cold and dreary, the oven works fine.

Here's what you will need:

  • A few slices of fresh prosciutto
  • Pillsbury Artisan Whole Wheat Pizza Crust
  • Crumbled feta
  • Onion
  • Shallot
  • Garlic
  • Arugula
  • Pear (whatever variety you like)
  • Balsamic Vinegar

First up, prepare the crusts. Unroll dough and place on a baking sheet in a 350 oven. Bake for 7-10 minutes until golden and remove from oven. Second, fry your prosciutto until it looks and smells amazing.

And cooked!

While your prosciutto is cooking, slice up your onion, and mince the garlic and shallot.

Darin the prosciutto on some paper towels but do not drain the rendered fat. Cook onions in fat and once tender add the shallot and garlic. Slice pear. (I should have a picture of these steps but remember the technology language complaint? Yeah..)

Once the onions and garlic are cooked, it is time to assemble!

Here's what I did:
  • Drizzle olive oil on crust (about 2 tablespoons)
  • Spread a cup of arugula
  • Arrange sliced pears over arugula
  • Spread onions and garlic over pizza
  • Sprinkle feta
  • Drizzle balsamic
  • Bake for 15-20 in 375 oven.
  • Enjoy!

One recommendation:
Buy this Balsamic and don't ask any questions. I use it for pizzas, salad dressings, and dipping bread. It is amazing. Orgasmic. Phenomenal. Worth every penny and then some!

Nail Art

Sunday I ran into Target to check out the Prabal Gurung Love collection. I really wanted to pick up a pair of these shorts but neither of ours had them. Boo whore...

Of course like any other red-blooded female I can't leave without walking each and every aisle and picking up useless products: This trip's loot included nail polish, a bag of york peppermint patties and three magazines. #firstworldproblems

I grabbed up one of these Revlon Nail Art pens and I love love it! So easy to use and I can't wait to start collecting these suckers and doing my nails in crazy polka-dots, stripes whatevs. Not really- I will probably stick with the updated french manicure but you get the picture. Go out to your closest Target and getcha one! I dare you to only buy one of these in Target.. Yeah, right.

Shape Mag + Sports Bras

Saturday morning we did our Functional Training Class (XFit but can't call it that, yet... because we aren't affiliated) and afterwards we went by Academy Sports to pick up another one of my favorite sports bras.. I am a 34C so a good sports bra is a necessity for me and my workouts and I am just plain tired of wearing two Nike compression ones.. Wears my laundry-wielding ass out! Brady offered to buy me another because he is tired of me wearing, hand-washing, and drying daily and I am poor. Glad I married a doctor.. Ha I kid.. Seriously though.. really am kidding- student loans are no joke! Once we got to Sports Authority, I sorted through the racks and couldn't find it!! FAIL! Then I started perusing the clearance racks and found one ON SALE! They are normally $46 but I found three in my size for $19.95 each (actually they only had my size). Total score for Sarah's workout wardrobe because now I set on sports bras until like 2015.

The Women's Endure C Cup:
  • Is the typical compression sports-bra but doesn't make you look shapeless
  • No underwire (a good thing!)
  • Really- I only have to wear one now!
  • No chafing!

Drive to your nearest Sports Authority asap and get you one!

In other athletic-ish news! You can get a year subscription to Shape Magazine for $3.99. Yes, I am serious and no gimicks. They are not sponsoring this post or anything- I just love me some Shape magazine. While reading on lazy Sunday afternoons, it always serves as a great motivator to cook healthy after a weekend of binge eating and drinking.

Here's the link to order.

Five for Friday

1. Enjoying delish breakfasts and appropriately putting them on social media. Apparently my Instagram has caused an uproar over the daily "gourmet" breakfasts I am enjoying. Well folks, I want to clear something up. My husband wakes up at 5:30 am each day to work out.. working out makes you really hungry so he makes himself a big breakfast each morning. He claims it is just as easy to throw in another egg, or whip up a double recipe of paleo pancakes so this is how I get to enjoy things like the pictures below..  If we are continuing with this honesty thing- Last weekend while he was gone backpacking, I ordered a pizza for dinner Friday night and subsequently ate it for breakfast Saturday morning and then again for dinner.. I am worthless if I don't A. have him cooking for me or B. have him to cook for.

2. Completied a TON of cookie orders this week!

Easter- a couple months early for a blog photo shoot

3. Fun shopping ahead! Thanks Mom!!!!

4. Loving my new AG jeans that I found on sale at Anthropologie! I have been lusting over the new colors and was excited to find the mint one sale for $50.. Score!

5. Mardi Gras! We don't get to celebrate in NOLA this year but we will be enjoying a Cajun dinner tonight at Maddie's, the local festivities in SOMA tomorrow, and a work lunch on Tuesday with Indian food and New Orleans inspired desserts. :)

I looked through 138,986 Facebook pictures to try to find one of us celebrating something Mardi Gras related and all I came up with was a picture from last year's STL St. Paddys Day festivities. But we are wearing beads and green so that counts for something right?

What are your weekend plans?
